I ran up to the guard who wasn't tearing the young lady apart. "Excuse me," I said, "Would you mind looking someone up for me? I want to see if he's in the building."

"What's his name?" the guard asked.

"Frank Breadstick," I replied.

"Breadstick, Breadstick," the guard said. "Here he is, Breadstick comma Frank. He's not in the building. He left at 8:02 last night."

"Right," I said, "I know he left last night, but then he came back. When was that?"

"Nope," the guard said. "He left last night and hasn't come back yet. It's still early though. Give him some time."

"Check it again," I pleaded. "I'm sure he came back last night, I just don't know if he's still here."

The guard looked a tad annoyed. "I don't know what to tell you, sir. There is no record of Mr. Breadstick entering the building after he left at 8:02 last night. So unless he came in through the skylight, he ain't here."

Hmmm. "What about Janice Goldwoman?" I asked.

The guard did a quick check, and replied, "She left the building at 7:10 last night, and that's it. Did she come back in through the skylight too?"

"I'm not sure yet," I said before stepping away.

"Have a happy Armageddon," he said as I did. I ignored his 2012 comment.

I tried to replay my conversation with Frank in my head, and see if I had missed something. I thought he said that he had left the office and then come back later. He did say that, didn't he? Maybe I was remembering it wrong.
