For a few hours, I alternated between trying to get to sleep, and trying to get to work. Neither was happening. What had happened to Frank?
Time for another walk. I liked to go for a walk when I needed to clear my head, and I found that it sometimes worked very well. If nothing else, it would at least let me burn off some nervous energy. I didn't even need to go outside necessarily. This time I was just going to walk around inside the building.
When I got to the lobby, I saw that the security guards at the front desk were here. One of them was chewing out a poor young woman who looked like she didn't deserve it.
As I was listening, I found out that she had almost walked in without showing her badge. That was a big no-no, and I now understood why the guard was so upset. He could be fired if he let someone in without checking their badge.
This was a secure building. If you had a badge, you had to show it to the guards when you entered. If you didn't have a badge, they'd give you a temporary badge, and call for someone to escort you. There were no exceptions for anyone.
Off hours, authorized people could swipe their badge across the reader to get in. But when the guards were here and the doors were unlocked, you had to go through them so they could keep track of who was in the building. No one gets in or out unless...
Of course!
