On IM, the communication isn't quite real time. You don't see what the other person is typing until they finish and hit enter. For the person who's typing, the delay feels reasonable. For the person waiting for a response, the delay feels like an eternity.
That's why they have a nice little feature to keep impatient people from sending IMs saying "Hello? Are you still there?" While someone was typing, although you couldn't see their response yet, you could at least see an indicator that they were typing. It now said "Frank Breadstick is typing a message."

Oh god, was it that day already? For the last few years, I've heard people talking about the end of the world in 2012. It has something to do with the Mayan calendar, but I try not to pay any attention to that stuff.
A few years back, people started talking about the year 2012. The exact circumstances of our demise varied depending on who was telling the story, but earthquakes and floods were popular choices.
As we got closer to 2012, a specific date came into focus: December 21, 2012. Supposedly, that was the exact doomsday date that the ancient Mayans predicted thousands of years ago. And every day, for over a year now, I've had to put up with people who actually believe it.
