"But I didn't do enough for him," I said. "Things weren't supposed to turn out this way. I always saw him becoming a successful mesothelioma lawyer, starting a family, and having lots of little Breadsticks running around. It's not fair, what happened to him."

"Don't beat yourself up," Tuck said. "There's nothing you could have done. But speaking of kids, I've always seen you having a couple of your own. When you got engaged to Milli, I wondered if it was going to happen. Had you ever talked about that?"

I let out a laugh. "I guess I can tell you this now. Milli's pregnant."

"Get out of here," Tuck said.

"It's true," I said back.

"Any idea who the father is?" Tuck asked.

"Very funny. We just found out yesterday. And with everything going on today, I didn't have much of a chance to think about it. But now I wonder what kind of person my kid would become. I didn't really care if it was a boy or a girl. I was just hoping they wouldn't grow up to become a mesothelioma lawyer."

Tuck smiled. "Now that, Jack...that is truly a reason to celebrate. Let's end all the regretting the past stuff, and focus on this moment. You are the father of a tiny little boy or girl, one who is already under parental pressure not to become a mesothelioma lawyer, and that makes this a great moment. We will celebrate. Oh yes, we will celebrate."
