We looked to Morty for some help. He said, "We haven't been able to translate very much of it either. However, I think Dr. Jones will recognize something if he keeps looking."
Tuck heard this and kept looking. "I'm not sure what I'm supposed to recognize here. The only obvious symbol is the circumpunct, the circled dot. It's been used for many different meanings over the years, but it most often represents a deity. In this case, I'd say it represents Mrityu."
"Our assessment as well," Morty confirmed. "At least part of it."
Tuck kept looking. "And then it's flanked by two circled pentagrams, each with a dot in the center. Here, the meaning is less clear. Sometimes pentagrams are just used for their geometric beauty. They're the simplest regular star polygons. And when you look at the four different line segments they contain, the length of each divided by the next is the golden ratio."
"But other than their looks," I asked, "what do they mean?"
"Well, the five points of a pentagram can represent the five elements: usually fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. They can also represent the five senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell. And a pentagram can represent either good or evil, usually determined by whether it's pointing up or down. But I don't know which way is up here."
"It's simpler than you think," Morty suggested.
Tuck kept looking at it. He still had no idea what the pentagrams meant. The circumpunct probably represented Mrityu, but what were the pentagrams? And why did they have dots in the center? He had never seen that before. A pentagram with five points and a dot...
Tuck froze. It couldn't be.
