"For a long time, nobody really knew what phazon was. As you said, we knew it was slightly radioactive, but extensive studies had shown that it was perfectly safe for humans. They didn't think it was anything to be concerned about. And since they discovered many applications for it in construction, they built the whole town out of it. But they had no idea what a tragic choice that was."

I started to freak out inside.

"The reason they didn't notice anything during the phazon investigations is simply because it was almost completely inactive at the time. But as time went by, it started becoming active. No one noticed though; it was too subtle. But it was gaining potency at an exponential rate. People started getting mesothelioma, and the general public didn't know why. The lawyers did, though. And as they became more powerful because of the mesothelioma cases, they saw how critical it was to protect their secret."

My lungs started bleeding tears.

"They quarantined the town and hid it from the rest of the world. They couldn't let the town residents learn that phazon didn't exist anywhere else, and they couldn't let outsiders learn what was happening. They even replicated the asteroid's impact crater in Mexico to keep prying eyes far away. With the town sealed off from civilization, things were ready to get wild."

He thinks killing all these people is "wild?"
